R6 rebirth - Introduction

Back in 2013, my younger brother and I were buying and selling a lot of motorcycles.

We started off with older Hondas. We’d buy them cheap to part out, or get them running and resell. Worked our way up to early model R6s and ended up with a couple towards the end.

One of them was this low mile, one owner 2002 R6.

Overall it was a very clean running bike, but the previous owner had downed it at low speed and done a little damage.

Little over 6k on the odometer.

Fast forward some years..

The bike was ridden here and there between 2013-2018, but at some point between then and now I decided to get to work and start fixing the damage.

The bike started to get disassembled in preparation for refreshing, then life happened and the project got put to the side. .

Moved a couple times, then COVID hit, but the bike has always moved with me with in hopes of getting back to it eventually.

The last move it took was in 2020 to where it is now, but sat for another 5 years in this state.

2024 was an especially rough year for me and as time went on I started making some different life choices to get myself to a better spot.

Getting rid of the bike was one of the things on my list and so it was listed for sale. It had been sitting so long and the thought of putting it back together was no where on my mind.

As I was working on organizing the garage, I had a rack full parts from the bike and wanted the space, so I started to clear the shelf and put the parts back on the bike to help with the sale.

As I started to take the parts off the shelf I would clean them piece by piece to reinstall them. After years of neglect I had forgotten how clean this bike is and why I had been keeping it with me all these years. The itch was back.

With the garage organized, I decided it was time to get back to it and give the bike the long overdue refresh it deserved.

I’ve been at it a few months now and have a lot progress to catch you all up on.

With that, I’m excited to share the project with you guys and hope you enjoy watching it come back together with me!
